A tweet on the airline’s official account said flight MS804 left Paris at 11:09 pm local time (2109 GMT), “heading to Cairo (and) has disappeared from radar”.<br />
<br />
Further tweets in Arabic said contact was lost at 2:45 am Cairo time (0045 GMT), when the plane was just inside Egyptian airspace and at an altitude of 37,000 feet (11,000 metres).<br />
<br />
There were 59 passengers and 10 crew aboard, according to the airline.<br />
<br />
“EGYPTAIR has contacted the concerned authorities and bodies and inspection is underway through the rescue teams,” another tweet in English said.<br />
<br />
The flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Cairo normally takes just over four hours and the plane was due to arrive at 3:05 am local time.<br />
<br />
The Flightradar24 website said MS804 is an Airbus A320-232, and was delivered to the airline in 2003.<br />
<br />
EgyptAir hit the headlines in March when a flight from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked and forced to divert to Cyprus, where the “unstable” hijacker demanded to see his ex-wife.<br />
<br />
In October, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for bombing a Russian airliner carrying holidaymakers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board.<br />

Many dinosaurs packed suitcases and left Europe,

More than 100 million years ago, something curious happened.<br />
<br />
Massive herds of dinosaurs started fleeing Europe, and scientists are not sure exactly why.<br />
Evidence of a large-scale migration was discovered by scientists at the University of Leeds while using a global database of fossil records to understand the dinosaur diaspora.<br />
Scientists found that some dinosaurs, unique to Europe during the early Cretaceous Period, were found in other parts of the world, suggesting these creatures migrated in a large exodus, according to findings published Monday in the Journal of Biogeography.<br />
For the first time, scientists used network theory to illustrate how these prehistoric creatures moved around the globe during the Mesozoic Era. The method is commonly used to quantify Internet data, such as a person's social connections on Facebook. It was during this analysis that scientists unearthed the dinosaur migration out of Europe.<br />
Scientists believe this migration happened after the continents started splitting apart, about 200 million years ago. The findings back other theories that suggest dinosaurs started moving around the world after Earth's supercontinent Pangaea broke apart.<br />
This is important because it shows that dinosaurs were similar to animals that live on our Earth today, lead study author Alex Dunhill from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds told CNN. "Give a species half the chance, it will expand its geographic range and invade a new ecosystem," he added.<br />
Although scientists are not sure why dinosaurs started migrating out of Europe, continental fragmentation may have influenced their departure. And this movement continued until the end of the Cretaceous era, about 66 million years ago, when the last of the dinosaurs died off and the continents shifted to where they remain today.<br />
The findings don't mean every dinosaur left Europe, though. It's more like dinosaurs gradually expanded their presence around the world over the course of tens of millions of years -- similar to the theory that Homo sapiens originated in Africa and over tens of thousands of years migrated to the rest of the world, Dunhill said.<br />
But for those who did manage to leave, you may be asking how monster-size dinosaurs got off the continent?<br />
A possible mode of travel may have been temporary land bridges that formed due to the world's tectonic activity. It's possible that some of these land bridges stretched across regions such as Indo-Madagascar to Australia. But let's not discount the possibility of swimming, too.<br />
"Dinosaurs could most probably swim. After all, an elephant can swim," Dunhill said.<br />
Also, the data revealed that once a dinosaur family left Europe, they didn't come back during the Early Cretaceous Period, about 125 million to 100 million years ago.<br />
There's no real explanation as to why some dinosaurs didn't come back. What scientists are seeing in the data may suggest a migration pattern or it might be a reason why there's a disparity in global fossil records -- since Europe is rich with dinosaur records, whereas many other parts of the world have not yet been explored.<br />

Freediver plunges 407 feet, breaks two world records

Freediver William Trubridge is diving to new depths, shattering two world records just days apart.<br />
<br />
The New Zealander held his breath for four minutes and 24 seconds to break his own freediving record at the annual Vertical Blue competition in the Bahamas on Saturday. He broke that record two days later on Monday, plunging 124 meters -- almost 407 feet -- while holding his breath for four minutes and 34 seconds.<br />
He surpassed his previous mark of 121 meters, which he achieved in another world record dive in April 2011.<br />
<br />
Monday's dive marks the 17th world record for Trubridge, 35.<br />
Freediving is an underwater sport where people hold their breath and dive without external breathing devices. In his new record dives, Trubridge dove in free immersion, which involves a diver holding onto a rope during their dive.<br />
There are dangers involved with the extreme sport. In August 2015, the world's best freediver, Natalia Molchanova, was presumed dead after she failed to surface during a recreational dive in Spain. Her body was never recovered.<br />
"I had a beautiful descent, everything went well with the descent," Trubridge said of his Saturday dive in a video posted to the Vertical Blue website.<br />
But it was during his return to the surface that Trubridge ran into difficulties, describing his ascent as "terrible."<br />
"At that point I was completely out of the headspace that I need to be in for a deep dive," he explained. "With my focus off, I was not in the right head space, not in the place I like to be, to complete my dive with ease or confidence. In fact, as I neared the surface I thought I might have a big blackout at the top."<br />
Luckily Trubridge emerged unscathed, and went on to break another record on Monday.<br />
It was a special occasion for the Trubridge family, with William's father watching his son break a world record for the first time.<br />
"We lived on the ocean on a yacht for 10 years, it was our home and for him the sea was his back garden, it was his playground," David Trubridge said. "So it made sense for him to do this kind of thing."<br />
